About us

The residence is open for ceramic research and experiments.
Our main line is wood firing in the Anagama kiln.

Gudenky offers prefabricated spaces and kilns, a studio and technical support to allow artists to focus on their work in a creative and mutually supportive environment where new creative ideas can be explored and implemented.

The studio offers a residency program for artists who want to work independently in studios on their own projects. In parallel with this program, we organize a thematic program that offers workshops, symposium, courses, talks and seminars.

Gudenky Residence was founded near Kyiv in 2020 on the initiative of ceramists Vyacheslav Gudenok and Tatiana Maksimchuk.

Our creative duo was formed in Nikopol 7-th years ago. We were both in search, trying ourselves in different kinds of creativity. Opening new opportunities, we managed to go beyond our own workshop and start actively cooperating with the city department of culture. With our participation, the city's cultural events have reached a new level.
So we found ourselves in urban sculpture, ceramics and different type of firing
This is the format of the annual symposium of fire sculpture "SCYTHIA". 10-12 ceramists-sculptors come to Nikopol, create their sculptures in front of spectators. And conduct a firing ceramic as a city holiday. During the existence of the symposium of fire sculpture "SCYTHIA" in the city were created two sculptural parks of ceramic sculptures. And also joint projects in which we popularized ceramics as creative activity were carried out. For example, in 2017 we carried out a project to create a ceramic facade of the city museum building from tiles made by schoolchildren of the city, made a wood-firing kiln in the town square, where these ceramic tiles were fired for the New Year holidays. In 2018, they created New Year's ceramic lanterns with schoolchildren, which decorated the city square on holidays.

We love experiments and try new options with Ceramics.

Then our sculptures were dropped in Kyiv and Kaniv. There was a fire sculpture in the United States in the desert in Nevada as part of Burning Man (my interpretation of this event is an international festival of creative self-expression).
There was an international ceramic project "Garden of Bright Children"
"Garden of bright children" is our creative project, which we created together with many Ukrainian volunteers, and presented it at the "Burning man" in the States.

Each of the participants had the opportunity to sculpt their baby from clay. They were different, funny and cute. We fired them in our workshop and exhibited more than 400 figures in a huge desert - galleries, in the open air, on metal stands called trees.

Inside the children were burning oil lamps, which heated the ceramics. And in the cool night darkness, touching them could warm your hands. In the final, we gave these kids to everyone, they flew around the world, and now warm houses in different parts of the world.
Let's try and experiment
Wood firing kilns have been looked at for a long time. And in 2020, we changed our city workshop to a ceramic residence we created outside the city. They built a wood firing kiln based on the type of the Japanese Anagama kiln. And we will investigate wood firing in Anagama.

The kiln is made for joint projects. And we want to share with other ceramists our love for wood firing. Explore ceramic technologies, embody bold ideas in joint creativity.
